Wait -- [His free hand reaches out to touch Viktor's cheek, before he can get too far away. Viktor's hand feels cool in his, and he's not sure if he'd realized until he was this close how much shorter Viktor is than him. Or maybe it was just Viktor's larger than life personality that made him think otherwise.
The touch lingers, fingertips sliding over Viktor's cheek, down a little further so he can cup his hand over Viktor's jaw.]
I've been wanting you to kiss me for a while now, actually. And -- gods, you have the prettiest blush I've ever seen.
[ Viktor is fairly certain that he looks like a sheet of white paper that's been colored on with red marker, but Jayce sounds so earnest in his declaration that his face heats more. He has none of Jayce's boyish handsomeness, and he feels incredibly inadequate staring someone who's both this impossibly good-looking and endlessly good-hearted in the face. The thought that someone like Jayce has wanted to be kissed by someone like Viktor is— ]
Ridiculous.
[ His tone is warm underneath the overtones of disapproval. It always is. 'Ridiculous' is usually what he says when Jayce has actually said something wonderful. ]
I would not mind doing it again.
[ Obviously. He's spent ages trying not to think about Jayce as anything other than a friend and lab partner, and now that he's opened the floodgates, it's a deluge. ]
I'm starting to think you like me being ridiculous. [Gently, tentatively, he nudges their noses together. Shifting a little further into Viktor's space, as if drawn by magnets to him. Close enough to breathe in each of Viktor's exhales, and the idea makes his head swim a little.
He's even more beautiful, up close. All long lashes and fair skin and that sweet flush across his cheeks. Jayce wants nothing more than to map out each freckle with his hands and mouth.]
[ Jayce really is oblivious if he's only starting to think that Viktor likes when he's ridiculous. He's liked it the whole time, and thought it embarrassingly obvious. He doesn't mention this, if only because he can't think straight with Jayce so close to him. It really is a problem, because before he'd been able to keep his emotions on a tight leash knowing that Jayce would never, ever want him, but now that he might actually be allowed to do things like kiss him, he's not sure he'll be able to think of anything else. It's worrisome. How is he ever going to get anything done in the lab without being consumed with very unscientific thoughts? ]
Yes, I think— a repeat trial is needed here.
[ He recognizes that he sounds stupid even as he says it, but his rational mind is trapped behind a thick pane of glass at the moment. Viktor lets their lips brush—it feels like that time they connected the wrong wires and got an electric shock—tentatively at first, before leaning in to kiss Jayce in earnest, investigative even in this; he kisses like he wants to map every centimeter of Jayce's mouth by feel. ]
[He did have a suspicion -- a hypothesis, even. But this moment confirmed it for him, and Jayce realizes he'll have to deal with that flushed, breathless feeling every time Viktor calls him ridiculous from now on. Some sacrifices must be made, he supposes.
There's something at the tip of his tongue, some smart reply about providing Viktor with more data points, but then their mouths are touching again and Jayce sucks in a breath like he's been punched. It feels like Viktor's stolen all the air from his lungs, but Jayce is more than happy to give it. Holds still to let Viktor explore, parting his lips to invite him deeper.]
[ His heart is pounding so hard that it feels like they must be able to hear it all the way in the Undercity. It feels like Jayce must be able to hear it, at least, but he doesn't laugh or ask if Viktor might be having a heart attack, so by some miracle that must not be true.
Viktor longs, once again, to throw aside this stupid cane. With it, he has only one hand to touch Jayce with. He makes the best of it, fingers finding Jayce's collar and tugging him closer so that he can create all sorts of interesting new data points, ones he catalogues in his mind with the utmost of care. The heat of Jayce's mouth, the way his tongue feels sliding against Viktor's, how impossibly sweet and pliant he is.
Yet another stupid limitation of the human body: Viktor has to catch his breath at some point, and doing so requires pulling away. He's loath to do so, but seeing Jayce's freshly kissed face makes up for it. ]
The results are inconclusive. [ There's nothing inconclusive about the way he feels right now. ] I am afraid we will have to repeat the study. [ A beat. ] Many times.
[The tug to his collar is good and is met with a surprised noise that melts into something undeniably pleased. The gesture puts him in mind of Viktor threatening (promising?) to reprimand him for being a distraction, and his next noise is a little more needy. And then Viktor is leaning away and that noise is wounded.]
Inconclusive? [It's a little slurred, and Jayce himself looks slightly dazed after being kissed so thoroughly. His lips are swollen, and though his complexion is darker than Viktor's, a similar flush creeps over his cheeks.] Oh -- yes. Yes, agreed. We absolutely should. We wouldn't want to come to any conclusions based on incomplete evidence.
